Biography

Lord Temple-Morris was elected Conservative Member of Parliament for Leomister in 1974 and remained an MP for 27 years, standing down from the Commons at the 2001 General Election.  He resigned from the Conservative Party in 1997, crossing the floor of the House firstly as an Independent and then, from June 1998, as a Labour MP.  Lord Temple-Morris was elevated to the House of Lords in June 2001.

Lord Temple-Morris has held numerous positions in the Commons, mainly in the field of foreign affairs and of Europe. He was appointed Chairman of the British Group, Inter-Parliamentary Union from 1982 to 1985 and, in that capacity, hosted the famous visit of Mikhail Gorbachev to the UK in 1984.  A member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee 1987 to 1990, he was also Founding Co-Chairman of the British Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body from 1990 to 1997.  Currently Honorary President of the Iran Society, Lord Temple-Morris is also President of the British Iranian Business Association.
